Apple tests, together with its partners, iPhones with screens larger than 4 inches, but also iPads that have a diagonal screens close to 13 inches. The American company is testing these products for years to see if their release would help them attract a large number of consumers, but so far failed to produce a version of their worth in the market.

Apple is now exploring new options and because manufacturers like Samsung have had great success with their smartphones of up to 6 inch diagonal, a part of the current iDevice owners are also asking the same thing.

In recent months, Apple has asked for prototype smartphone screens larger than 4 inches and has also asked for screen designs for a new tablet device measuring slightly less than 13 inches diagonally, they said. Whether either design will make their way to market is unclear.

Before launching the iPad, Apple has tested the screens of various sizes for its tablets and only last year decided to bring to market iPad Mini with 7.9-inch screen. Tests made by Apple for products with such screens could result in the release of large diagonal screens in the future, but you should not make much hope from now. Depending on the evolution of the market Apple will decide to continue or terminate the development of these prototypes and if in a few years trends will change, we will not ever see them launched.
