During WWDC 2013 I said that one of the iOS 7 updates includes standard support for the third controllers, and now is the time to develop the subject. This is the first time that Apple provides support for dedicated gaming controller for iOS platform, manufacturers of such securities can now develop special hardware thanks to APIs provided by Apple.

Now the company offers developers directly from SDK, software that allows them to develop the hardware in such a way that it is compatible with all games that have API implemented, the idea being that Apple provides a standard API for all, API is stable and easy to implement.

Apple imagines that developers will build hardware similar to the pictures above, but the company could force these developers to get their certification to be able to market them. This gives users the assurance that the product is compatible with iOS platform, but could offer developers the chance to sell their goods in Apple Store’s, so guaranteeing them huge revenues. However, before getting too excited, it should be noted that it will take months and months until the first dedicated controller for iOS 7 would hit the market, so we have to wait for some time.
