According to CNET, Nike is in the process of shutting down their FuelBand offices. CNET states:

“Nike is gearing up to shutter its wearable-hardware efforts, and the sportswear company this week fired the majority of the team responsible for the development of its FuelBand fitness tracker”

“”The company informed members of the 70-person hardware team — part of its larger, technology-focused Digital Sport division comprised of about 200 people — of the job cuts Thursday. About 30 employees reside at Nike’s Hong Kong offices, with the remainder of the team at Nike’s Beaverton, Ore., headquarters.”

This is interesting since only last week Nike opened a new office for the Nike+ team. Apparently of the 70 current employees more than 50 were fired within the past week.

However, according to Nike they haven’t given up on wearables, rather they want to focus on the software aspect instead of both soft and hardware. Nike stated however that they will continue to sell the Fuelband as long as stocks are available.
