Borat Meets iPhone – Who Farted?

Now that Apple has loosened up a bit about which applications make it into the App Store and which don’t, a slew of new ones are making their way to an iPhone near you.

Some have slightly off-color humor and some — like so many applications before them– are sound machines. Instead of creating the soft sound of flowing water, or chirping of birds, however, these offer… a variety of bodily sounds.

Well, imagine my surprise this morning when I discovered that one of the newly released apps in this rapidly growing genre has a familiar name attached to it. Yes, folks, my friend and website partner, Dimitri, has launched the iPhone App company Portable Arts and they have released their very first iPhone application — Who Farted?

Who Farted? offers not one, not three, but 30 different realistic bodily sounds. (Yes, Dimitri’s mom must be so proud!)

In all seriousness, while I’m not personally a fan of this kind of humor (although I did love Borat and was rolling on the ground during the movie) the execution of the application is actually pretty good. It uses the iPhone "spinner selector" to select both the sound and the time delay which can range from 30 seconds, to 1 minute, 3 minutes, or 5 minutes. (Ah yes, the old sneak attack. I remember if well from my fraternity days.)

I also applaud the fact that instead of hiding behind some euphemistic terms, Portable Arts chose to call the app what it is and name the sounds what they are. You have "The Ripper", "A -Flat", "Loose Goose", etc.

This iPhone whoopie cushion can be had here for free for the first 5 comments. Just leave a comment on the next app you think Portable Arts should make. The first 5 will get a free promo code.

And by the way, when I was speaking to Dimitri about all of this earlier today he mentioned that they had submitted a second app, as well. It provides a bit of insight into the inner-working of the app-approval process. Their Christmas Carol App was submitted to Apple over a month ago. They planned on it being their first release but it is still awaiting approval. This fart app was submitted just 3 days ago and is already available!

Go figure. I guess Apple’s approval process still needs some work.

WhoFarted? can be found HERE in the App Store.
