Truphone's Skype Integration Goes Live
Just as I was writing a post about my early preview of Truphone's Skype integration I got an email with the announcement that it had gone live for everyone. We are excited to announce that from today, Truphone for the iPhone and the iPod touch can now let you stay in touch with all your Skype friends.
You can now:
- Instant Message (IM) your Skype contacts
- Make calls to Skype users on your contact list*
- Receive calls from other Skype users
It’s easy. You don't need to update or download anything.
- Go to the IM screen in the iPhone application (the IM/More screen in the iPod touch application)
- Select Skype (from the Setup screen)
- Sign in using your Skype account details
When you visit your ‘Friends List’ you will now see all of your Skype contacts and you will be ready to start.
If you are in Wi-Fi then all calls and instant messages will be completely FREE.
And for the iPhone application, even if you are not in Wi-Fi you can still make Skype calls and send Skype instant messages using Truphone Anywhere. We don’t charge anything for you to do this, but it will use your data package to connect the call or send the instant message.
We offer Skype on Truphone as a free service, and should this change in the future, we will let you know straight away.
Don't worry. You can download it again for free. Truphone for the iPhone from here, or Truphone for the iPod touch from here.
This new release is one of the most exciting of Truphone’s history, and one that we hope you find great fun to use. If you have any questions or feedback, our friendly Support Team are ready and waiting.
*This version does not support Skype Out calling

I have checked under "IM" every day now since reading the post about skype being available. I still do not see any Skype option. Am I doing something wrong? Should I delete and redownload the app? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would definitely try that... weird.
I've checked my Truphone app several times since reading this post and there is no Skype option to be found anywhere in my app.
It is a bit of a pity that there is no Skype Out in this version. Let's hope they add it in pretty quick. I'll still keep on using Truphone though. Skype is going really need to have a killer app if (which I'm sure they will do) and when they EVENTUALLY release their iPhone app in order to get people to switch back. I can people who don't know any better will just get the Skype native app but people in the know may pick something else like Truphone.
