I’ve always loved a good puzzle, so when I saw Contre Jour, I knew that it would be the perfect game for me. Contre Jour combines pleasing graphics with interesting music to create a masterpiece that is perfect for any puzzle-lover.
Contre Jour is French for “against daylight,” and upon launching the app, users realize why this name was chosen. In Contre Jour, the user must guide Petit, a strange looking black orb, to safety. Instead of manipulating Petit through a d-pad or swiping, you must change the landscape. You can create hills, valleys, ramps, anything that you may need to collect the three lights and arrive at the exit.

With the exception of the three orbs of light and the exit, most of the levels are in complete “darkness” consisting of black and gray, which fits the name of Contre Jour. I loved the graphics in this game; combining the simple, yet elegant, backgrounds with the interesting characters, Contre Jour is definitely pleasing to the eyes.

Another great aspect of Contre Jour is the soundtrack by David Ari Leon. The great music adds to the fun game and compliments it perfectly. Contre Jour is one of the few games where I actually enjoy the music, rather than quickly muting it upon launching the app.

Of course, gameplay is one of the most important aspects of a game, and Contre Jour also succeeds in this category. There are currently sixty levels spread over three worlds. You start out with twenty levels and unlock twenty levels at 40 lights; another twenty levels are unlocked at 90 lights. Contre Jour was fun at every level because different factors such as slingshots, monsters, and obstacles were added.

Overall, Contre Jour is a marvelous app that satisfies your mind, eyes, and ears. It combines great music, great graphics, and great puzzles to create a great game. If you are looking for a great puzzle game, then check out Contre Jour in the App Store.
