The first Don’t Drop app didn’t make much of an impression at the App Store, which makes it curious that beginning Indian developers, Tech BLA Solutions Pvt ltd, decided to put a sequel on the market. The game blends puzzle elements with arcade action and flashy graphics in high definition. It looks pretty good, but once you start playing it has an unfinished feel to it, rendering it very difficult to play.

The idea behind Don’t Drop 2 is to collect as much water as you can by moving rows of bricks, so the water can get through. Once you’ve gotten your drops into the slits between the bricks you try to transfer the water to a bucket, that’s at the bottom of your playing screen. If you manage to transfer more water into your buckets that will earn you more points. Some drops are worth more than others, and if you use the magnets well, you can get much more water into your bucket. But be careful of the purple monster, as they eat your droplets and flood your workspace. Once you have gathered together enough points, you unlock a new wall, for instance an Egyptian wall or a Mayan wall.

Don’t Drop 2 looks good. The graphics are beautiful. According to the developers there will be more layouts and features to choose from in future, but they aren’t available just yet. And that’s the overall feel you get with this game: it’s just not finished yet. There are a few essential things things that need quite a bit more attention: the controls lag, which is incredibly annoying, rendering the game almost unplayable. When you resume play, after you get your first “Game Over”, and I got quite a few of those, there are two different tunes playing at the same time, severely out of tune with each other. Not conducive to relaxed gameplay. I would also have liked more of a story: are we going somewhere, are we watering something specific? Why do the walls change from Mayan to Egyptian? Are we saving the world? Maybe Don’t Drop 3 will fix all these things. I certainly hope they will fix the music!

We rate this app 3 out of 5 stars.
