Smartphones have found themselves to be apt little devices for dungeon-crawling slash-’em-up games. Games like Eternity Warriors and the Dungeon Hunter series have particularly stood out from the countless games in this genre, and the follow-up to the former is a basic, but worthy and addictive addition to the handheld dungeon crawler canon.

Eternity Warriors 2 is, as you may have guessed, an action-oriented dungeon crawling game. Some would call it an RPG, but the fact of the matter is that there’s nothing to say in terms of plot here (something about an evil demon who’s overrun the land). All you need to know is that you control a bad-ass warrior with a penchant for dual-wielding axes.

There are plenty of levels and several worlds for you to slash your way through. The game lacks that appealing open-world feel of Dungeon Hunter, and the levels are pretty basic. On the plus side, they don’t take long to get through so you can dip into the game for quick sessions.

There is no questing here. Just pure combat. As such, you’d hope that the combat would be the game’s strongpoint, which it duly is. Combat is fundamentally divided into basic attacks, special attacks and parry attacks, each with their own set of upgrades and sub-skills. With the huge amount of enemies you’ll be facing later on, you’ll need to learn to fight with a balance of all the skills you acquire for your character.

Graphically, Eternity Warriors 2 isn’t mind-blowing, but this means it’ll run on most half-decent Android devices. There is little to speak of in terms of outstanding effects, lighting or shadows here. Think somewhere between PSOne and PS Two quality.

The game has a decent amount of weapons and loot for you to pick up on your travels, but it’ll hardly keep you hooked for too long. The game’s lack of environmental variety and loot combine with the lack of plot and sense of objectives to undermine its noble efforts in the combat department. It’s one hell of a blast for a while, but there’s just not enough outside the combat to engage you in the long run.
