Guggle is a cute and addictive game available in the App Store with excellent design and animation (and looks terrific on the iPhone’s retinal display). The premise is simple. You’re a bubble in a variety of environments depending on the level (the bubble also happens to have hands and a face) and you must go around collecting various items for points while avoiding various other sharp items that would "pop" you.
Game play also continues by imbuing the bubble character with certain powers such as "stone hands" which allows the bubble to punch through anything except metal. Eventually, you’re supposed to find something that looks like a star (which is supposed to be a piece of a Wizard’s soul). That will bring you to the next level.
The most interesting aspect of this game is that the motion is controlled entirely by the gyroscope. The bubble always floats upwards (or downwards, depending on what you have in the settings) and your job is to rotate the device as much as 180 degrees to get the bubble floating in the right direction.
While this is an interesting way to control the game, it can make one dizzy and nauseous. I would have preferred the option of touch controls to move the bubble in certain directions. Fortunately I’m told by the creators that the next update of the game will indeed include touch controls. There is an alternative method of control involving tilting the device in certain directions to move "up" rather than a full rotation which somewhat alleviates the sickening feeling.
However, this shortcoming is easily dwarfed by Guggle’s excellent graphics and animation and the original concept behind it. The game itself is quite addicting in its simplicity. This could easily become the next Angry Birds.
