Say you were meeting someone you befriended on a social networking site for the first time in person. You initially agreed to meet at a Starbucks shop along Street A, but by some unforeseen circumstances you ended up at a little known coffee shop at Street B. Your newfound friend, who is quite familiar with the area, now calls you up on your iPhone and asks where you are so he can come to the spot. You tell him to hang on and wait for your text. You open an app you recently bought from the App Store called Aquí and voila! A Google Maps link to your exact location is ready to be sent to your friend. You send it via SMS and soon he arrives at the place. Aquí does it again.
Yes, quite simply, Aqui promises to do one thing and does it well. It is an all but no-frills app that lets you send your present location to your friends in a number of ways.
Upon launching the app, Aquí will immediately attempt to determine your coordinates as accurately as it can. The color of the Send button indicates the level of accuracy: Green means best, Yellow means OK, and Red means poor accuracy. Note that the longer you run the app, the more accurate your generated Google Maps link is likely to be. You may also attach a photo of your surroundings to the resulting map link by tapping on the camera icon at the top right corner of the screen.
Press the Send button to share your location with your friends or concerned parties via SMS/MMS, Email, Twitter or Facebook. An option to send a text message containing a map link optimized for BlackBerry is also available.
To be sure, there's nothing spectacular with this app. And the developer acknowledges that; the developer makes no claims of the app being this or being that when in reality it can never be this nor that. I reiterate: Aquí promises to do one thing, which is to let you share your location with relative ease, and it does it well.
Quick Take
Value: Low to Medium
Would I Buy Again: I rarely find the need to share my location with others, so probably not.
Learning Curve: Hardly Any
Who Is It For: People who inform others of their whereabouts on a regular basis or those who just want an easy way to share the same on hand if the need arises.
What I Like: Simple and straightforward.
What I Don't: Could use some improvements in the aesthetics department.
Final Statement: Trapped inside a building nobody knows and you conveniently have an iPhone with you? Aquí might just save your life. Who knows?
