If you haven’t yet downloaded a copy of Call Of Duty: World At War: Zombies, then what’s keeping you? The game has recently had its price slashed in half. While I’m always hesitant to pay $10 for an iPhone game, $5 doesn’t seem quite as bad. The game is certainly worth it.

There is an abundance of zombie first-person shooters in the App Store, but somehow the gothic war setting for this version of Call Of Duty makes it seem original and fresh. Granted, Call of Duty is better appreciated on systems that are built more for gaming rather than in a situation such as the iPhone where gaming is only a piece of what it can do.

Sadly, because the game is toned down for the iPhone, it only offers a single level which takes place in a bunker.  You have to defend the bunker against zombie Nazis who can enter from multiple points and can be killed in a variety of ways (guns, knives, grenades, etc.). The more you kill, the more points you earn.  The more points you earn, the more stuff you can unlock. I understand there are other levels that can be teleported (teleported?) to, but I haven’t gotten that far.

While the graphics are great, the game is disappointing for the price. Particularly when there are so many other first-person shooters in the App Store with better graphics (Resident Evil comes to mind). You’d think Activision would take more effort with one of their major franchises.

It is possible to play the game in multiplayer mode, but I had some difficulty connecting to it so buyer beware. If you’re a Call of Duty completist and like zombie shooters, then this game is for you.

Quick Take

Value:Medium to High.

Would I Buy Again:For $5? Maybe. For $10? No.

Learning Curve:Medium.

Who Is It For:Call of Duty completists and zombie shooters.

What I Like:Excellent graphics. Shooting zombies is always fun.

What I Don't Like:Only one level. Tough to use multiplayer mode.

Final Statement:I don't remember any zombies in World War II. Must have slept in class that day.
