User Rating:If you love to do puzzles, especially word games, and you enjoy coming up with as many words as possible in a jumbled set of letters, then you’ll love Free Word Warp by MobilityWare. This great App for the iPhone is one of the most challenging and entertaining word games I have played to date. It combines the fun of word searches – where you get to find various words in a set of jumbled letters – with the complexity of anagrams – where you have to use all the letters listed to form one word. The goal of Free Word Warp is to get as many points as possible by forming as many words as you can – from the 6 letters provided – before your time runs out.
The info icon in the corner (denoted by an i) lets you update the settings. From this screen you can get the list of Rules, turn the Sounds ON or OFF, choose from different Themes and choose to have Animation ON or OFF. You can also turn the Alt Word List On or OFF. (If turned ON, this will provide you with a list of more obscure words making the game harder.) Lastly, you can change the Time allotted from 1 minute to unlimited.
Click Start and and you will be presented with 6 letters for your first word. Forming a word in the boxes in the middle of the screen, is as easy as touching the letters. If you make a mistake, touch the LAST button or touch the letter in the box to remove it. When you have a word, touch Got It and it will appear at the top if it matches a word in the list. If you get tired of the letters as they are, touch WARP and the letters will be rearranged. You get 10 points for each correct letter in a word and a bonus if you get all the words correct. If you find at least one word that uses all 6 letters, you can continue to the next level when your time is up.
One really neat feature is the ability to get a definition for a word. You can simply touch any of the words you created and it will give you the definition from one of the following sources – Dictionary.com, Merriam Webster, Dr. Words and Wiktionary.
Free Word Warp is definitely one of the best word scramble games out today. There is also a version called Word Warp which is .99 cents. It has all the same features as the free game but without the ads. I’ve been playing the Free version for a while and had to upgrade to the paid version. It is quite addicting and I preferred to not have the interruptions. Either way you go, Word Warp will help you build your vocabulary. Its definitely worth checking out!
