User Rating:Like so many other iPhone adaptations before it, The Game of Life comes across as a little cartoony. This makes sense considering the market that they’re trying to sell the game to (either kids or nostalgic adults).
The game begins with the user selecting their character and the color of their game piece. Then, as with the board game, you spin a dial and determine where you go on the board. You can play multiplayer online, do pass-and-play or play the computer by yourself.
The graphics and animation on the game are excellent and turned a simple and somewhat boring game into something interesting. It’s even possible to fast-forward through the computer’s turns so you don’t have to watch an animated game piece move around the board.
The game also has a pretty good Help menu for those that never played before and wish to understand the rules. I also love the fact that your given the option of playing your own music library during gameplay.
Given the fact that the game involves spinning a dial and just letting the app control what happens next, it’s a good lazy person’s game. I never really liked Life as a board game, but the implementation of it for the iPhone and iPod touch is fun and well done. Perhaps they should have called it ‘Better than Life".
