When I travelled through Europe, I took with me the "Let’s Go" guides so I knew where to go and what to see. And those suckers were heavy. Fortunately, there are apps like GlobeMaster to lighten the load for future travellers.
The app opens up with a list of countries so that you could pick your destination (I’m glad they provide a search feature, otherwise it takes a while to scroll down to anything starting with a "u"). I choose the United States since I live here and am familiar enough with the place to determine if the information provided by the app is adequate. 🙂
After a little while moving around the app, I found that the information is very useful, with little tidbits thrown in here and there (such as the various surcharges on New York City hotels). However, the information is only useful if you travel to a city provided. The app is notably missing certain cities that are heavy tourist attractions such as Las Vegas and Orlando. Given that the content is taken from WikiTravel, I would have hoped that the content was more thorough. However, the content is provided offline (for those travelling with an iPod Touch and have no available WiFi), so I guess the limited choices help save space on your device.
The app does come with useful extras such as a tip calculator and currency converter (and I wish I could count on one hand the number of apps that provide those services). Between that and the information provided, the app might be worth a download for the avid traveller.
Pros: Tremendous wealth of information. Tip calculator and currency converter built-in.
Cons: Not all potential travel locations are provided.
