User Rating:Google just released an iPhone version of Google Earth and it is one of the most mind-blowing iPhone apps yet.
You can read how the good folks at Google describe it above…
I have been using it for a short while and here is how I describe it-
OMG! I can’t believe the iPhone can run a full version of something like Google Earth! It shows off how powerful this diminutive device really is. It shows off how great the screen is! It even makes amazing use of the iPhone’s GPS chip and location features.
Seriously, this app is one of those apps that remind you how truly amazing and innovative the iPhone is. The graphics of spinning the globe, zooming in on specific areas and searching for specific addresses are the type of thing that would have seemed to be science fiction just a few years ago.
The use of the location feature is really neat and works quite well. Here are a few shots of the ap zooming in on my current location seconds after I tapped the location button on the lower left side of the app’s screen.
I should note, however, that I have had a few small crashes along the way. Nothing huge but the app did suddenly shut down and require restart.
Quick Take
Value: Amazing!
Would I Buy Again: This is an iPhone 3G "Must Have"
Learning Curve: Low
Who is it for: Anyone with an iPhone 3G (works with the Touch or iPhone 1st Gen but without the GPS is limited)
What I like: It brings the power of Google Earth to the iPhone and even adds functionality through the location services
What I Don’t: I have run into a few crashes when trying to zoom in too tightly
Final Statement: It blows the mind! Seriously.
Google Earth is a free app and it is available HERE in the AppStore.
