When I first opened this app, I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of content. Kid Apps: 13 in 1 does advertise itself for having 13 apps, but I thought that this meant that the app offered 13 games. No, the free app offers 13 distinct apps, many of which contain several educational concepts.

Many of the apps focus on vocabulary with the use of flash cards. But these aren’t your typical flash cards. All flash cards feature the spelled out word, a very relevant picture, and an excellent text-to-speech pronunciation of the word. If you want your child reading the word instead of the app, you can easily silence the pronunciation. Flashcard topics range from animals and school items to music and the beach.

This app, while it does offer hundreds and hundreds of flashcards, provides much, much more than just vocabulary cards. In the ABC app, for example, there are number and letter tracing games. These tracing games do not focus on your child’s accuracy and do not provide feedback, which is good as your child can focus without having to worry about scores.

If your child does like the challenge in achieving a high score, however, he or she can play Math Match, easily the most difficult app of the set. In this matching game, your child flips a purple square which may say something like 5+2 or 9×6, depending on which category you choose (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and random are available). Then a green square, which contains only a number, is chosen. Both squares will disappear if the problem matches the solution.

There are math games which aren’t as difficult as Math Match. Flash Math is a fun, flashcard-based game with a question on the front side of the card and an answer on the back. Your child reviews the problem, then flips the card to see if his or her answer was correct. Unfortunately, there are only addition and subtraction modes in this game.

There is also Math Whiz, which is a game that focuses on answering quick and answering right. Your child is asked a question, and has four available answers. After several quick, and correct, answers, your child will receive one of four trophies, depending on how well he or she did. With profiles for up to five young minds, this competitive game is sure to be a favorite.

I really liked everything about this app, except for the intrusive ads, which show up every time you go home (to the collection of the 13 apps). Fortunately, you can go pro for the inexpensive price of $1, which I would definitely recommend doing.
