* Frenetic tap-’em-up

Any game involving the incessant blasting away of zombies is bound to get people’s attention. Whether you’re shooting urban zombies, Nazi zombies or, as in this case, zombie farmers and their stock, there’s a lot of fun to be had in making the undead dead.

Lamebo vs. Zombies can best be described as a frenetic tap-’em-up. You’re the titular Lamebo; a lamb that managed to freakishly survive the zombie outbreak, and instead of becoming a shambling corpse has gained a headband, an arsenal of weapons and the ability to stand on its hind legs. It’s your job to traverse the rural-themed levels and get to the source of the outbreak.

Maybe ‘traverse’ is the wrong word to use, since Lamebo can’t actually move around within the levels. Instead, you have to rely purely on a range of weapons – from pistols to electricity guns – to survive the waves of amusing undead livestock. The more you kill, the richer you get, and the better weapons you can afford.

While the fact of not being able to move does not make this the most varied or original of games, it is still a firm challenge. In order to even get past the first level, I had to earn enough money to upgrade my meagre pistol. After a couple of upgrades, however, and once I learned that I should shoot manically even if there’s nothing on the screen rather than pick my shots, Lamebo gets quite entertaining. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the farm animal hordes and have racked up enough kills, then you can use the Armageddon button to render you temporarily invincible and more lethal. It’s a tool you’ll need.

The gameplay is repetitive, as you simply tap at everything on the screen that you want dead (which is pretty much everything in sight), but Lamebo‘s cartoon violence and crude sense of humour make a game that you’ll come back to. The livestock you kill is varied enough to make you want to see it all; starting with half-chickens crawling towards you with their innards hanging behind them, the game gets increasingly challenging as you have to take out zombie birds, spectral scarecrows and charging cows.

Lamebo is one of those games that gets more satisfying the longer you play, since the longer you play it the more absurd your weaponry and enemies get. What’s more, completing the game’s 15 or so levels allows you to play as Super Lamebo, a more bad-ass, beret-wearing version of Lamebo who has double health and deals double damage. Lamebo is an uncomplicated game, but there’s enough unlockables, Game Center achievements and zombified creatures here to make it worth its humble asking price.

Read the Developer's Notes:
Lamebo VS Zombies is an addictively fast and furious zombie blasting game.

You will control the mutated lamb called Lamebo and defend yourself against a multitude of strange zombified creatures such as half-bodied crawling zombies, zombified chickens who lay venomous eggs, katana-yielding zombified ninja rabbits and explosive keg throwing zombie bears!

As Lamebo progresses through the stages, you must face scarier zombies and more challenging level designs. The good thing is, there is a healthy arsenal of wicked weapons at hand to blast the zombies into smithereens. Not enough fire power? No problem, because every weapon can be upgraded multiple times!

You are likely to find yourself chortling aloud as you listen to Lamebo’s borderline offensive victory chants and the zombies’ feverish ramblings!
