Legos aren’t just for building any more. We have Lego games, virtual Legos, art made out of Legos…and now tanks to Lego Photo you can see yourself (and others) saved in the glory of Legos.

After reading the description I have to admit I was intrigued—what would I look like in Legos? So I downloaded the app and gave it a try.

The first picture I tried was on I already had on my phone—that of my father. And as you can see from the results—it’s not bad. The color is a bit ‘funky’ but you can still tell it’s a person and the parts of the face etc. Tapping on the screen rotates the colors (blues, grays, some sort of ‘Technicolor’ type, etc). I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t look like Lego at all—more like a pixilated or mosaic feature. It was kind of fun though.

Since the Legos have such stark colors, I thought a sunset would look pretty cool. When I tried it, it was impossible to tell what the original looked like. I tried a screen capture of an app. Same results. I even tried a fire (figuring there was enough contrast, etc. to make the picture look “good”). As you can see from the results—if you were expecting a Lego blob, you got it!

After several more pictures, I must say I was a bit disappointed in the Lego Photo app. The results were hard to predict and it was impossible to tweak it (maybe change the block size? Or the # of colors?)

Quick Take

Value:Low--it didn't work nearly as well as I wanted it to

Would I Buy Again:Nope...I had more trouble finding pictures that worked well with the app.

Learning Curve:Hardly any--very straightforward to use.

Who Is It For:Lego fanatics and people that like mosaic "photos"

What I Like:It's Lego! What isn't there to like

What I Don't Like:Most pictures were "blob" like..more controls might make this program more useful

Final Statement:I had high hopes for this app and they were just crushed. Not only was it hard to predict what the pictures would look like, I couldn't tweak it to make it match my expectations either!
