What do you get when you cross the popularity of the game Angry Birds with the surrealism of Monty Python?  You get Monty Python’s Cow Tossing.  It should come as no surprise that the Python’s were willing to lend their names to this app, since they have no problem whatsoever with selling out.

The plot (such as it is) centers around the movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" in which King Arthur and his men are being bombarded by various farm animals from the French knights defending a castle that for some reason is located in England (best not to think about it).

You’d think the game would make you one of the Knights of the Round Table, but no.  It makes you the French knights trying to keep Arthur and company from storming the castle.  You must launch various ducks, pigs and cows at them in an attempt to keep their ramming cart from the wall.  Unlike the Angry Birds versions I’ve played, you actually have to hit a moving target.

The graphics look tiny on the iPhone and it could be one of those games better suited for the iPad.  Game play is fairly standard but on some of the menu screens the program is a bit slow to reach to one’s touch.  There have been reports of the game crashing but I saw no evidence of this during my testing.

I’m a Python fan and for a dollar, this game is cute, funny and worth the cost.  Like Angry Birds, it can bit quite addicting.

Quick Take

Value:Medium-High.

Would I Buy Again:Probably.

Learning Curve:Low.

Who Is It For:Monty Python and/or Angry Birds fans.

What I Like:Simple to play. Funny. Cheap. Uses actual movie clips.

What I Don't Like:Graphics are small for the iPhone. Menu screens can be unresponsive.

Final Statement:"What is your quest?" "To play Monty Python's Cow Tossing." "Right. Off you go."

Epic, historic...and totally inaccurate. Arthur and his knights, charged by God on a sacred quest to seek the Holy Grail, find a castle inhabited by you, merry and mischievous French barbarians whose master claims to "already have one".

Defend your Citadel with an adjustable catapult against those English types who feel enraged by your outrageous accent, using a variety of projectiles that belong more in the farmyard than 10 feet up in the air. Fling chickens, cows, European and African swallows, and even the kitchen sink to keep those knights out before you have to fart in their general direction.

Tell that silly king to boil his own bottom and claim his mother was a hamster, and build up your arrogance meter to unlock other animals and taunt that silly king a second time.

Featuring:

- 80 Levels of English invasion!

- 6 different types of animal to throw

- Your catapult gets better as you progress

- Power-ups mid-flight! Watch out for the Holy Grail when it appears

- Clips from the movie you can unlock

- Game Center-enabled!!
