What do you get when you combine an awesome Mission Impossible-esque story, addictive gameplay, and tons of cute anthropomorphic cat and dog characters? You get the brand-new iOS-exclusive game, Pickpawcket!

In Pickpawcket, you play as a mischievous cat who plans to steal back some paintings taken from the art museum by a group of dogs. On the way, you also attempt to steal as many of the dogs’ precious gems, just to give them a taste of their own medicine. Of course, this isn’t going to be any stroll in the park; the dogs’ hideout is full of twisting mazes, security dogs, and even infrared laser beams, all trying to bust your criminal activities.

While the guards are keeping watch, you must avoid their line of sight with your ultra cat skills. In harder levels, it may also become necessary to time your movement, distract dogs with TVs, and even dress up in a dog costume. Ultimately, your goal is to recover the painting from each room and escape without getting caught. Your rating and score for that level is based on how many gems you collect. There are currently 60 levels in total (split into 3 stages of 20 levels each), and the addition of more levels are almost inevitable in the future for a game like this.

The game has a very arcade-like feel, allowing you to choose from touch or joystick controls. Gameplay itself was very easy to learn, but the addition of new gameplay elements every few levels meant that Pickpawcket didn’t get boring, either. Not only did I find it fun, but I also found it entertaining; after each level, you return the painting you stole to gallery the museum gallery, which you can visit in between levels to view. The coolest thing is that they are all cat-themed parodies of famous classical pieces of art.

As of now, Pickpawcket supports Game Center, but not OpenFeint. It is a universal app, working both on iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch.

I really enjoyed Pickpawcket, and loved it’s originality. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
