User Rating:Sentinel: Mars Defense is currently available for free in the App Store to celebrate the release of Origin8’s sequel game, Sentinel 2: Earth Defense. As a result, I helped myself to a copy.
To begin, this game has excellent graphics and motion. The very setup of the game is superb and quite professional. The game itself is good as well, although it could use some tweaks for improvement.
This is a basic tower defense game in which it is Earth’s future and the human race has colonized Mars. Sadly, one of the bases has been attacked by various mutant bugs. The only way to the base is through a circuitous trench which has various weapons turrets set up around the perimeters. Your mission is to strategically add more turrets based on the money you have and squash those bugs dead.
One improvement I immediately thought of for the game would be mutliple angles. Why can’t there be cameras around the trench to see the monsters coming? Another would be the ability to manually fire the weapons (perhaps by tapping them). It beats waiting around to see if your strategic placements worked. Admittedly, since I haven’t looked at the sequel game, it’s possible these issues have been addressed.
However, despite my nitpicks, for a free game this is definitely worth it. The bugs come in 60 waves and it takes a while to learn if you placed your turrets correctly or if you’re bug food. If you like tower defense games, it’s worth the wait.
Quick Take
Value:High.
Would I Buy Again:For this price? Absolutely.
Learning Curve:Medium.
Who Is It For:Those that like tower defense games.
What I Like:Great graphics.
What I Don't Like:Wish it had more features. Don't like waiting to see if it worked.
Final Statement:For the (free) price and graphics alone, it's worth the download.
