User Rating:The game is a cross between the arcade classics Space Invaders, Galaxia, Asteroids and a few others thrown in. You are a fighter jet with the objective of shooting down enemies including other planes and helicopters, boats and gun turrets that are on the tops of towers. If this game had a space theme, I would accuse it of being a rip-off of Star Wars.
The graphics and motion are very good for a 2D game. The controls are easy to use. There are options for controlling the sound or FX volume, changing the type of controls to use and changing the core language of the game. The game comes with 3 levels of difficulty (easy, medium and hard) and 8 stages of play. You can also trade off between speed of your jet fighter and the strength of its shields (yes, it has shields. Don’t argue or you’ll ruin the suspension of disbelief).
I have a strange complaint. The jet fires automatically and doesn’t allow the user to control when to fire. I think adding that feature would lead to more interesting game play. Plus, the jet only flies in one direction (up). If the user could control that, it would also lead to a better game.
With the release of Sky Force Reloaded (the sequel to this game), Sky Force was offered for free for a limited time in the App Store.
It’s a decent game with very good graphics. If it’s still offered for free, it’s worth the download.
