Firstly, I’d like to say that I think Skyscanner is the best flight search engine on the internet. By a process that’s a mystery to me, it seems to find much cheaper flights than rival sites such as Expedia and lastminute.com. While I’m not the kind of person who’d spontaneously book a holiday using his iPhone on the daily commute to/from work, there are no doubt plenty of people out there who’ll find a use for this highly functional app.

Skyscanner contains everything you need in a flight finder. While the start-up feature of using location services to find your nearest airport seems a bit arbitrary (unless you’re living a Spy-Thriller existence where you have to leave a given country immediately), the app is all functionality from there on in.

The main screen immediately presents you with the usual flight-booking options – To/From, Depart/Return, and the number of passengers. It also saves your recent searches, meaning you can quickly return to a journey that you were researching before.

Upon tapping in the details, the next screen takes you to the options you have for that journey – from cheapest to most expensive. As I mentioned earlier, Skyscanner seems to feature prices you won’t find elsewhere and the iPhone version is no different, showing the best deals available.

Unlike many similar apps, Skyscanner doesn’t just give you flight information, it lets you go all the way and book your flight using your iPhone browser, or by connecting you to you desired airline by phone. It’s almost disturbing how simple this app makes it to book a holiday. At a time when people should be tightening their purse-strings, it shouldn’t be this easy to jet off to another country. To Skyscanner‘s credit, it makes such reckless behaviour a very tempting prospect indeed.

Rounding off the package are options to change what currency you view flights in, the language of the app, and you billing country. Though it’s safe to assume that if you’re reading this particular review you’ll leave these options as they are. The Skyscanner app, like the website, is an excellent way of researching and booking your holiday.
