Networks can be pretty frustrating--when you go to google and your phone says that it can't find google.com, you know something's wrong...but where do you start?
If you're like me, you switch from WiFi to 3G (and back again) until eventually it loads. It's that voodoo-troubleshooting. Was it really the WiFi? A bad 3G connections?
Now, thanks to speedtest, I have one less bit of voodoo.
Speed test is a handy utility that allows you to figure out the speed of your interenet connection. Start up the progream and press 'Begin Test'. The app does the rest, testing your upload and download speeds.
By comparing the results from my computer on my LAN (through http://www.speedtest.net) and the results from my iphone, I can often narrow down problems to be either the device, the router, or the Internet Connection.
Speedtest also highlighted one interesting fact to me, the iPhone (at least in my personal experiece) does not come close to the kinds of speeds i get from my home wireless network, even though its on the same network when i did the test. I wonder why that would be the case?
