Ever since the release of Doom, the first-person shooter game has become a cliché, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy them, particularly when they involve blasting robots into a million pieces.  In effect, the simple plot of the game is that you are John Connor and you have to blow up all the evil robots.

The lite version of the Terminator Salvation game comes across as part commercial for a mediocre movie.  It also plays a bit like a traditional Nintendo game which has a controller for movement on the left and one for firing your weapon on the right.  Naturally, it uses cool sound effects and music directly from the franchise.

The movements for turning are a little difficult to master.  However if you get stuck, you can tap the screen near the top to pause the game and view the menu system which includes instructions.

Even the menu system is well designed.  You can choose the type of movement you want to control the characters, whether it’s dragging your finger on the screen or tilting the device.

Naturally, the graphics are superb.  It’s not difficult to figure out why portable game makers (I’m talking about you, PSP) are quaking in their boots about competition from the iPhone or iPod Touch.

In short, this is a cool game and well worth the free price.  The only reason I didn’t give it a full 5 stars is that I suspect the paid game is somewhat better.

Pros:  Excellent graphics.  Cool effects.

Cons: Not the full version.
