User Rating:For those of you fans of 80’s cartoons, Transformers G1: Awakening is here and it’s patterned after the character designs of the Transformers cartoon of the 80’s (as opposed to the horrid Michael Bay movie remakes). To make it even sweeter, it’s currently priced at $2.99, 40% off its original price.
I’m beginning to think that many of these games based on 80’s cartoons use the same engine because this particular game reminds me the Voltron game I’ve reviewed. That being said, either of them are a pretty good game.
The controls for this particular game are confusing. The directions have to be read very carefully. First you have to tap the character, then you have to tap the square on top in order to see the possible places your character can move (in a field of squares). The coolest aspect of the game is the one-to-one battles in which you see the total cost in negative energy of each gun burst.
The game does have various objectives and you go up in Autobot "rank" as you play, starting with Bumblebee and ending with Optimus Prime. The graphics, motion and sound are on par with the best I’ve seen for the iPhone/Touch (they even include the famous "transforming" sound effect).
Overall, if you can figure out the game play, it’s a cute and retro game for three bucks. If you’re a Transformers fan or just an RPG fan, this one is recommended.
