Words With Friends may be one of those games that you see, but never really consider purchasing. You may think that it’s just a boring word game or Scrabble knockoff. Well it’s not.

I guess that it is, in fact, a Scrabble knockoff, but it’s definitely of the highest quality. The game is very polished and has a community to go with it. What makes Words With Friends even better than the original tile word game is its multiplayer capabilities, hence the ‘With Friends’ part. You can play someone from your contacts list, begin a match by entering your friend’s username, randomly play another player, or play a local pass-and-play game.

Once the game begins you can close the app at any time. You will be notified by a push notification whenever it is your turn. You should know, however, that the game is not designed to be played in one sitting; it is a casual game and may take several hours or days to complete. So even if you do not have time to sit down and play a game, you will still be able to play this game at your convenience.

One thing I find frustrating about the game is the lack of a good opponent-finding system. There is no option allowing you to be matched against a beginner, intermediate, or expert. I have played 8-10 games and lost every single time. No game was even close. It’s still fun, it’s just frustrating that I, a Scrabble novice, am always matched against a human dictionary.

Despite this, it is still a great game. Get the game, convince your friends to get it (there is a free, ad-supported version), and you will surely have fun, no matter what your Scrabble level.

Quick Take

Value:Medium.

Would I Buy Again:Yes.

Learning Curve:Medium. You'll know how to play the game, you may have to learn how to win the game.

Who Is It For:Anyone, you do not have to be a word game lover to enjoy this game.

What I Like:Brings a social, anywhere-anytime experience to Scrabble without the need for the archaic board.

What I Don't Like:I'm a novice in a Scrabbler's world.

Final Statement:This is a great game for those who are good at Scrabble. It's a good game for those who aren't.
