I don’t know about you guys, but I was never a fan of family game night.  The thought of being immobile for a length of time that was up to the discretion of my parents was utterly terrifying—mind you I was a hyped up five year old looking for my next sugar fix.

Anyway, the only thing I ever found appealing about a cabinet full of games, was the Boggle apparatus that I could put the letters into and create all sorts of loud obnoxious noises with.

Having said that when I first saw wurdle I had to try it out.

Unfortunately, unless you set your iPhone/iTouch to the loudest volume and shove it in someone’s face, it’s not that loud or obnoxious.  Other than that, this game is absolutely fantastic!  A cross between Scrabble and Boggle, wurdle is a fun and engaging game that is also very challenging.  As soon as you start the app, the game is on!  The objective is to, in a set time limit, use your finger to draw a line between the letters to form as many words as possible.  If you do happen to create a word the screen will flash white and when you lift up your finger, you get points for the word.

The game is very intuitive and easy to play: longer words are worth more points, you can’t repeat words, and there are cheap words (via the Scrabble dictionary).  There are also a lot of customizable options.  You can change the size of the grid, the color scheme, the length of play, and the minimum number of letters in a word.  Another cool feature is that you can set one of your own pictures as the tile background.  The greatest part of the game is that it never gets boring.  Each round is so short and different from the last that each round feels like a whole new game.

Also, you can play the game with multiple people.  Each person gets to play multiple rounds in succession, and the person with the most overall points wins.  Believe me, this gets VERY intense.

Quick Take

Value: $1.99 is a lot less than any other addiction I know of
Would I Buy Again: I don’t even think that is a question here
Learning Curve: Not the easiest, but very intuitive
Who Is It For: Anyone willing to enjoy playing a board game
What I Like: Each round is different and fun
What I Don’t: Can get very frustrating if you can’t see any word chains

Final Statement: Even if it was double the price, I would buy it in a heartbeat

My Rating: 5/5
