Terraria brings back memories of the original PlayStation titles, especially the earlier entrants to the Final Fantasy series, with the 2D pixelated graphics and whole adventure sequence.

Think Minecraft but with battles and pickaxes and more battles.

Terraria takes place across an open sandbox world. Equipped with barely sufficient tools like a pickaxe and sword, players go about collecting resources to be used for crafting items. Along the way they encounter enemies that draw them into combat. Terraria is pretty much your run of the mill adventure game, except with all the attention to detail and on a mobile device.

I believe the main attraction point of Terraria lies in the 2D pixel tiled graphics that are a truly refreshing break from the forced 3D ‘high definition’ graphics that more often than not look awkward on mobile devices.

I also liked the details put into Terraria that are very rarely seen on a mobile iOS game. Simple things like depth of NPCs and their chattering go a long way. Also, the developers made it a point to provide easy accessibility which is a problem in lots of adventure games with small buttons being a major source of headaches.

For $4.99, Terraria surprisingly isn’t expensive at all. The sheer amount of content is enough to overwhelm. Definitely top of my wishlist this year.

Quick Take

Value:High

Would I Buy Again:Yes

Learning Curve:Steep. The game is extremely complex and thus takes quite a bit to get accustomed to.

Who Is It For:RPG fans

What I Like:The depth and details of the game. There's even multiplayer.

What I Don't Like:The game can get a little draggy and melodramatic

Final Statement:One of the best fantasies on iOS
