Times are hard all over, many people have lost their jobs and fuel prices are spiraling: any way to cut costs is very welcome indeed. So an app that gets you free texts could be just the ticket! No wonder there are loads of them in the appstore right now, but TextNow is one of our favorites: it’s free, it’s relatively easy to use and it even works on the iPad as it works on Wi-Fi as well. Finally, iPad users can get texting. (finally, a real big type pad for me and my butterfingers!) To get started, you simply add your phone number and choose a username your friends and family will be able to remember. You can also send embedded pics, which is pretty neat. Another bonus is that you get an actual phone number with the app as well, which you can pick yourself. Great if you don’t want to give someone your real number…

The only reason we can think of to NOT get this app RIGHT NOW is because it will get you texting even more. And you, too, may be sending out texts such as: “I need to get my pants from under your porch. People are asking questions.” So don’t say we didn’t warn you!
