User Rating:The whole apps-within-an-app phenomenon has grown in size, with lots of them currently available in the app store. Pretty soon we’ll have apps that contain 1000 programs and breathe fire.
I’ll give this to Appzilla: it uses pretty good graphics for an app that is the iPhone equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife. Some of them are even useful. For example, the app has a color calculator that returns the hex, CMYK or RGB formula of any color you choose … useful for graphic design work.
The apps range from the silly (there is a crystal ball app which gives a "yes" or "no" answer) to the intellectual (an app that generates random famous quotes) to the psychedelic (a strobe light app) to the useful (a system info app to tell you about the details of your device, including memory).
Granted, many of the apps are available from other developers for free around the App Store. You have to ask yourself if it is worth it to save search time and canvas space for what is essentially a subfolder for apps. For $.99 it’s a bargain.
Granted, at least half of the apps in AppZilla could qualify for "crap" status, but the good ones in it tend to run $.99 in the App Store individually anyway. Some of the apps, like the dictionary, require a data or WiFi connection to work. Obviously, the camera apps only work on the iPhone.
While not perfect, I think AppZilla is worth the time and investment. Like your average music album, even if you don’t like everything, you’re bound to like something on it.
Quick Take
Value:Fairly high.
Would I Buy Again:Quite possibly.
Learning Curve:Low to medium, depending on the app.
Who Is It For:Those who want to save canvas space on their device.
What I Like:Lots to choose from.
What I Don't Like:Not all of them are winners.
Final Statement:Pretty soon, AppZilla will be fighting App Kong and all Hell will break loose.
