User Rating:In the event you can’t afford beat box applications like Groovemaker, rapper 50 Cent and Vitamin Water have developed an alternative. 50 Cent is coming out with a new album as of this writing, so the app is probably intended as a promotion for that. And Vitamin Water.
It works fairly simply. You touch certain buttons on the main screen to produce beats of various types and certain other buttons to inject other sounds (including some raps by 50 Cent himself). It’s also possible for the user to record whatever he or she is creating by touching a button near the bottom of the screen. The user can also shake the device to add accent to the beat.
Each recording is limited to 3 minutes, but it’s possible to change that length in the settings. It’s also possible to save the mixes to the device and enter them in a contest with the grand prize being the opportunity to meet 50 Cent.
The app works in conjunction with Romplr which sells various beat mixes created by various people. I noticed some sluggishness in the device when trying to record, although that could be my first generation iPod Touch acting up.
Admittedly, I’m really not big into rap stars or mixing beats but if you’re into either, then this could be the app for you. It’s fun to play with for ten minutes, but in the end I don’t think I’ll let it take up space on my iPod Touch for too long.
Quick Take
Value:Medium-Low.
Would I Buy Again:Probably not.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:Rappers, Beat-boxers and 50 Cent fans.
What I Like:Cute app.
What I Don't Like:Sluggish on my device. Not generally into the idea.
Final Statement:Cute to play with, but not for keeping.
