User Rating:The goal of "Flying", like so many "flying" type games out there, is to tilt you phone to steer your plane between "objects"–in this case sky scrapers and the Statue of Liberty.
What differentiates Flying from other games, like Cube Runner is how it couches itself. Glorifying to "good ol days" of 8 bit, 3D graphics, it brings back the longing to be a kid. To feel that excitement of putting that "small" 5.25" disk into the ol’ floppy drive and fire up the latest game.
And I admit it, I played Flying a few times remembering how they used to dither the images, and how crappy the sound was. I thought being able to modify the colors from "Green" to "Amber" and "black and white" was a stroke of (some what silly) genius.
I remember those days, and I remember how excited I was. How much cooler the games were then, and how much harder they were to create. But nostalgia always has a way of making things seem better than they were. And while Flying gives you the feeling of being back in the 8-bit land of computers, it also made me realize how much happier I am now–with true color and stereo sound.
Quick Take
Value: Low
Would I Buy Again: Nope
Learning Curve: None–by now you’ve seen this before and interacted with apps this way before
Who Is It For: People that remember amber screens and when "War Games" seemed like high tech.
What I Like: It made me remember what I found interesting about computers so long ago
What I Don’t: It was a boring, rehashed game
Final Statement: If $.99 cents is eating a hole in yoru pocket and you just want a quick laugh, grab the game, play it once and remove it. But if you are looking for something original and stimulating, this game isn’t for you.
After the long journey, you encounter the mystery in the pyramid?!
