If you’re a graphic artist, then the heavy odds are you use the Adobe suite of tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) on a Mac computer. If that is the case, and you own an iPhone or iPod touch, it would be very difficult to justify not downloading Adobe Ideas.

Adobe Ideas is a small-scale version of the capabilities of Adobe Illustrator. Adobe already markets a free iPhone app called Adobe Photoshop Express for doing a small-scale version of Photoshop. While the app is free, it does cost $4.99 to add layers functionality, which is a reasonable investment considering that the app works universally on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

This app has been around for several months both only recently got an upgrade to work universally.  It is intended for the designer on the go who needs a sketchpad to create ideas for whatever creative project he or she is working on. Granted, other programs have a greater degree of functionality for the sketchbook or art canvas concept, but Adobe Ideas has the name brand and the best price point possible if you can live without layering capability for your art.

It is possible to import photos to draw over or just use a blank canvas. There is a library of thumbnails for each work. Naturally, it is possible to save projects to the local Image Library of your device to to e-mail them. Due to the professional nature of the program, Adobe probably intentionally withheld the capability of sharing on social networking sites.

If you’re an artist or simply aspiring to be, Adobe Ideas is practically a mandatory download for your iPhone, iPad and/or iPod touch.
