As I write this rumors of a bump in iPhone capacity to 32 GB are flying. I had long believed that when it comes to capacity bigger is better but lately there seems to be less and less of a case to be made. I mean, think about it- you can stream music thanks to a variety of apps, you can create Genius Playlists in iTunes and have a constantly revolving selection of music and podcasts require syncing to be updated anyway so you need to sync frequently. Add to that the fact that most apps take up far less space than many of us expected and the arguements for high capacity dwindle.

There is, though, a tremendously compelling argument for high capacity that can STILL be made thanks to Air Sharing.

Air Sharing is one of the "must have" applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Seriously a MUST HAVE.

It is by far the best, most convenient way to transfer files to your iPhone/Touch and view them that I have seen. It works Mac OS X, Windows XP and Vista, Linux and any web browser. It supports TONS of formats, including iWork and Office formats, PDFs and HTML. The list is huge!

You can even play mp3 or m4v files right in the application! (hmmm, doesn’t that duplicate a native Apple function??? Nobody tell Apple lest it meet the same fate as Podcaster and MailWrangler.)

It is super easy to set up and includes a clear step-by-step manual in the app itself. Once your iPhone/Touch is connected to a computer through Air Sharing adding a file is as simple as dragging a file into the folder on your computer.

Seriously, this is a superb piece of software that turns your iPhone/Touch into a wirelessly connected, drive and then lets you USE the files on that drive.

I added–

-a Pages document. No problem.

-a Word Document. No problem.

-a big PDF. No Problem (although it was slow to render and change pages)

-a JPEG. Perfect.

-an mp3. Yup.

-an m4v. Perfect.

And the list goes on and on.

This is an AMAZING APP. GET IT!

Quick Take

Value:  Super High. (Still free as of review time but worth it after free period.)
Would I Buy Again: In a second
Learning Curve: Connecting the first time- medium. After that- easy
Who is it for: Anyone with an iPhone or Touch
What I like:  Does exactly what it says and does so perfectly
What I Don’t: Not a thing (seriously, not a thing)

Final Statement:  Great app! Is the reason for getting as large a capacity as is available. Glad I got the 32GB Touch!
