User Rating:Success breeds copycats. Nothing proves that like App Genie, which is a slightly different version of AppBox Pro, with different apps and a better interface. Actually, there are a couple of applications now in iTunes that are "App Stores within the App Store".
App Genie is an improvement on AppBox Pro. The interface is easier on the eyes and looks better. It does have some of the same apps (Currency Converter, Battery Level), but also manages to contain some original apps (Country Facts, Amazing Facts). There is even an app within App Genie called Toolbox that is four, FOUR tools in one.
The problem with apps like App Genie is that it’s kind of annoying to find the app you’d like. You have to go through the process twice, first by locating App Genie on your screen and then locating the app you want within App Genie.
App Genie would also be better served by having a customizable layout. I’m not certain of the developer’s future plans for this app, but it would be a good idea to provide additional apps within the app for further sales. On the other hand, you can’t beat the $.99 cent price for this kind of functionality, even though you can find free programs around the App Store that perform most of the functionality within App Genie’s programs.
App Genie is better than average. It certainly provides some useful functions but it does have room for improvement. Hopefully those will be seen in future releases.
Quick Take
Value:Medium to High.
Would I Buy Again:Only if it had a few improvements.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:Those who want more for less.
What I Like:Good interface.
What I Don't Like:Can't customize the layout. Only has enough apps to fit on one screen.
Final Statement:In terms of utility apps, you could do a lot worse.
