User Rating:The question you ask should be: how can anybody review an app that has been made by Apple for the App Store for the purpose of selling Apple products? It’s a bit like reviewing commercials for their entertainment value (it’s possible, but entertainment is not their central purpose).
We took a look at this app because we thought it might start a trend in apps dedicated to mobile shopping. Imagine an app thats designed purely for shopping your favorite local retail outlet? Take a photo of yourself and try on some clothes, then purchase them in app. Or maybe in Apple’s case, view the products in 3D, being able to spin them around, etc. In other words, re-define the mobile shopping experience.
Technically, since Apple owns the operating system and all the hardware, and know their own products abilities, they should be able to produce an amazing app to sell their stuff. Unfortunately, thats not the case.
The app is kind of normal. It reminds me of the Engadget app I read every day or maybe the Amazon app. It works. It’s functional. It gets you to where you want to go. It just doesn’t have that trademark Apple pizzaz. It’s simply another client of a retail website.
It allows you to browse Apple merchandise, locate a retail store, make reservations of all sorts at that store as well as listing events there and search the online store. There is also a cart for buying tons of stuff via the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.
While the app is simple and functional and does contain Apple’s trademark graphics, it is kind of plain overall. But the one thing it does do, and has done, was give another avenue to people that wanted to pre-order the iPhone 4, and maybe that was the real goal for Apple with this app.
Quick Take
Value:Medium.
Would I Buy Again:Probably. It is Apple, after all.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:Those who want to buy their iPhones on the go using their existing iPhone.
What I Like:Free. Simple interface. Intuitive design.
What I Don't Like:Was hoping for more from the company that has mastered technological style.
Final Statement:It's still a mandatory app for one's device.
