AroundMe doesn’t do anything earth shattering, but what it does do, it does very well. Using the iPhone location feature, AroundMe quickly (and we mean quickly) provides a list of important businesses that might interest you nearby. This includes banks, bars, coffee shops, gas stations, hospitals movie theaters, etc.
Tapping the specific kind of business your interested in shows a list with the closest ones at the top. Tapping any specific item in that list provides the address, phone number and distance from your location. It also offers a shortcut for showing the route to the location, emailing the information to yourself or someone else, showing it on the map, or adding it to your contacts.
It is fast, free, and, for the most part, accurate. Unfortunately, the mapping data it uses must be slightly out of date because a favorite restaurant in town closed last summer and was still listed. That, however, only occurred once during an extensive series of tests.
The only “wish” I have for the app would be the ability to control the circle within which it searches, so i could search a different location I may not be around. But since it is intended to show what is “Around Me” that would kind of defeat the purpose.

Who is it for: Anyone with an iPhone 3G (will not work as well without the gps chip)
What I like: Works fast, well and easily. Provides tons of useful information quickly
What I Don’t: Map data slightly out of date. No customization of search possible.
Final Statement: I had been using Where but this app is so much easier (not that Where is difficult) that it will be staying on my iPhone instead.
