User Rating:Despite being available for almost a year, I’ve finally gotten around to taking a look at the Audi A4 Driving Challenge app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It’s another example of a long line of companies marketing via the App Store.
The game is obviously a driving game (what else would Audi give away?). The user must test drive an Audi through a driving course with cones on either side. Steering is done by tilting the iPhone or iTouch in either direction and there is a section of the screen near the bottom that looks like an accelerator and a brake. Those are supposed to be tapped when you want to do either.
The game is not thrilling. It is what it’s supposed to be: a commercial for the Audi. There is a settings screen that lets you control the steering sensitivity for the device and whether you want to use the static camera mode.
The most fun I had with the game was steering as if I were a drunk lunatic and trying to knock down all the cones surrounding the track. I didn’t get them all, but got a good chunk. Perhaps if one actually got drunk before playing the game, it would make it more interesting but provide a lesson to the masses about the dangers of drunk driving.
Frankly, there are other, better first-person driving applications available in the App Store that are free like this one. This one isn’t bad, but just isn’t interesting enough to warrant repeated play.
Pros: Good graphics. Simple to use.
Cons: Not very interesting.
