Audio Recorders aren’t a brand new thing for the iPhone. There are plenty of apps out there that do exactly what they say and allow you to record voice notes. Each of them have certain traits that make them stand out from each other, but for the most part, they are practically all the same. Now, granted I haven’t tested every voice recording application available but I did compare this one side-by-side with a free one I had before called QuickVoice.

Audio Recorder has a very simple and basic layout, which is how I like it. You open the application and it pulls up a new recording, making it very easy to start recording almost immediately. At the top of the recording screen is the recording name, just below that is a gauge to measure the intensity of your voice, recording status (stopped, paused, etc), and then the recording time. Audio Recorder gives you the ability to pause in the middle of recording and pick up again, or even finish, save it and come back and edit it at another time. Also during playback you can fast forward or rewind simply by dragging the bar back and forth, sort of the same way you would in the iPod app.

Audio Recorder does what it says it’s supposed to. It allows you to easily record, pause, replay, and even edit recordings. They also offer a download from their website that will allow you to sync your recordings to your computer, no matter what the length. The download is available at www.peerium.com. The only thing I have found about Audio Recorder I didn’t appreciate was the simple fact that when replaying a recording there is no option to turn speaker off and listen to it the same way you would a phone call. Other free options for voice recorders have this option, but they usually don’t allow for editing a already stored entry, or syncing to your computer.

QUICK TAKE

Value: Medium

Would I Buy Again: With a update to speaker only issue, Yes

Learning Curve: None-Very Easy

Who is it For: Anyone who needs to easily take and have the ability to sync voice notes

My Likes: Easy to use, and edit any recording.

My Dislikes: Listening to recordings only gives a speaker function, so there is no option to quiet it to avoid distracting anyone around you

Final Statement: Audio Recorder is a good application that makes taking and keeping voice notes simple. Unfortunately, there are plenty of free apps out there that do the exact same thing. The only perk to Audio Recorder is the ability to sync to your computer. Maybe with a few updates this app could stand out in the crowd of free ones. If you need the ability to sync however, this app is great!
