Band of The Day serves up a very novel concept. Terming itself a “mobile daily magazine” meant for music, it serves up biographies of up and coming bands, as well as bands that have been around but have not quite made the cut yet. All this in the hopes that the bands can reach out to a larger target audience, and become even more renowned.

The app features a very cool calendar style home page, where it offers details on a different musical group each day, from Korallreven to Rubblebucket. I wouldn’t be too surprised if you haven’t heard of these bands, but fret not for before you go on searching them on Wikipedia, the app proves intricate and intimate details of the groups it promotes. All this information presented in a very neat and orderly system which I will touch on in the next paragraph.

Graphics wise, Band of The Day presents everything in a clean and neat way. Everything is arranged neatly and is free of clutter. The way things are aligned vaguely reminds me of the layout scheme for Windows 7 phones, in a sense that everything is offered as simplistically as possible. The buttons flip out nicely and everything is easily accessible.

Not only does the app grant you access to information of the bands, it also allows you access to mixtapes provided by them. This allows you to listen to songs by the bands, a good advertising gimmick for them to hook more fans. Feel free to enjoy the music while browsing through the lyrics provided.

As a free app, Band of The Day is definitely good to have around. Not only does it provide an alternative to the music in your iPod, you might find yourself hooked onto a new musical group too.
