I’m always looking for a handy new utility.  Anything that makes something more useful is a good thing in my point.  To that end, I downloaded and installed ‘Battery Life’

I fired it up and ran it through its paces throughout the day–and it definately does what the author says it will do–no false advertising here.

And while it’s nice to know the exact status of my battery, I’m not sure it’s any better than glancing at the top right corner of my phone.  Granted, can I tell the difference between 20% capacity and 25% capacity by looking at the standard battery on my phone?  I can not, but does it really matter?

The biggest downfall I see with BatteryLife is that it doesn’t give me the data I really want–how much longer do I have until I need to recharge my phone?   Since background processes are still a no-no on the iPhone, I understand that the app can’t suddenly "warn" you when your battery is low, or graph (in real time) how what your battery useage is.  But it would be nice if they can extrapolate the data and at least give me some sort of estimate.  And why is it that the percentages are in 5% increments? (I never saw 89% capacity, I saw 85%, I saw 90%, but nothing in between).

Quick Take

Value: Low
Would I Buy Again:  I doubt it
Learning Curve: None! You just read the screen!
Who Is It For: People wondering about how their battery is performing
What I Like:  Easy to use interface, nice graphics
What I Don’t:  It didn’t tell me anything I couldn’t know already!

Final Statement: If looking at the top right corner of your phone to view your battery status is too difficult for you, then BatteryLife is a tool you’ve always wanted.

Read the Developer's Notes:
BatteryLife displays the battery charge on percentage and graphic information. It gives the charge percentage of the battery on the last time you used the application, giving also the date and time of your last verification and shows for how long the device stayed plugged to a power source while the application was running.* An indicator LED shows by colors (orange, green and red) whether the battery is being charged, or it is already charged or if there is no power source charging it at the moment.* You can configure the BatteryLife to show information as you please. It’s a free, simple and easy application. You can check your battery status anytime you want and charge it when it’s necessary.
