User Rating:EA really let the graphics all out for this relatively simple game. The rules are the same as with the board game. You pick a square and hit the red button to fire weapons. If your opponent’s ship is on that square, it’s a hit. If you fill your opponent’s ship with red pegs, then the ship is sunk (leading to the classic phrase "you sank my battleship").
There are three versions of the game: Classic, Salvo and Superweapons. Admittedly, I barely understand classic on this version and need more time to understand Salvo or Superweapons. This game is unnecessarily confusing.
Whenever you fire a weapon, there are cute computer-animated clips that show naval battle scenes. There is also a Settings menu from which you can deactivate these scenes or control other aspects of the game such as sound.
While the game has excellent graphics and is a classic, one needs some serious learning time in order to master the nuances of this game. Getting help from a master of naval strategy is recommended. Despite its shortcomings, however, if your a fan of battleship and don’t mind spending the time to master those nuances, the gameplay is lots of fun, and it’s worth the two dollar investment.
