iPods started as music players, and one day grew to have a phone get along with them. But music was their core, and people still use iPod Touches and iPhones as music players. With the default Music app. A free app. Do you need a paid app to listen to your music?

If you had asked me before using BBE SonicMax Pro, I would have said no, music was nice and good with the default player, and more so with a good pair of Sennheiser earbuds. How blind I was!

For the last months I had stopped listening music in my commute, instead I read in my iPad, so I didn’t remember what was it like to listen to my songs in my iPod Touch. I started BBE SonicMax Pro with the default settings for earphones and started playing Strutter, by KISS. I didn’t find anything odd: KISS were loud and cool as always. Then I saw a switch for deactivating the special audio enhancement features of the app, and pressed it: from ON to OFF.

If someone was staring me at that moment, I’m sure the surprise was clear in my face: what were rounded and deep bass and a huge 3D feeling (like a supercharged stereo) was now a flat, dull rock song. The pity is that I was used to that dull and flat sound and I enjoyed it!

I’ve tried it with rock (KISS, Meat Loaf), pop (Goo Goo Dolls), classic (Glenn Gould’s Goldberg variations) and the results were astonishing in all genres. BBE SonicMax Pro has built-in AirPlay, so you can enjoy the enhanced music with your AppleTV or your AirPlay enabled speakers. Awesome!

BBE SonicMax Pro is plain simple to use: select a preset and there you go. You can also fine-tune your settings, and create up to 3 custom presets. It comes equipped with earbuds, headphones, external speakers and dock. Of course it can play any of your playlists, shuffle and play continuously as expected.

It’s hard to convince you to drop 4$ to download BBE SonicMax Pro to listen to music, after all, there’s a free app in all iPhones to do this. I guess you’ll have to take my word for it: if I losed my iPod 10 times, this would be the first app I’d buy, 10 times without doubts. It costs the same as a good cup of coffee, but you’ll enjoy it for far longer.
