User Rating:Be Free or Die should market itself as a low-cost alternative to the $10 for the Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Because that’s basically what it is.
Granted, the zombies aren’t Nazis, but they’re there in their decaying, putrid glory. It takes a head shot to kill the monsters otherwise they just keep lumbering along. Fortunately, these are the slow, dim-witted "Night of the Living Dead" zombies rather than the quick, dim-witted "28 Days Later" zombies. Perhaps the latter are available at later levels.
The graphics are good but not great and the 3D animation is good for what you’re paying. The virtual controls are somewhat stiff and jerky to the point where I was beginning to think that the shotgun-wielding first person was a zombie himself. The creators should either simplify the controls or allow the user to pick a range of control styles that would make him or her more comfortable.
The game has different levels as well as settings to control the volume and turn off the background music (an option I tend to appreciate). Overall, the game is decent but not overwhelming. You do get a lot for the price, but in the end I prefer the classic FPS games like Doom (although I think Call of Duty should note this and lower it’s exorbitant price as a result).
If you’re a fan of zombie movies and need a low-cost method to live the dream (or the nightmare), then this is the game for you. However, there are better versions of the same concept.
Quick Take
Value:Medium.
Would I Buy Again:Possibly.
Learning Curve:Medium due to control difficulties.
Who Is It For:Zombie lovers with little spare change.
What I Like:Low cost.
What I Don't Like:Graphics and motion could be better. Difficulty with controls.
Final Statement:A good low-cost alternative to other zombie FPS's
