The forrest is being cut down by the merciless humans! A the heroic beaver, you must join with your forrest friends to face this menace head on…well, the other animals will meet it head on. You on the other hand, will be sending them to their death with your slingshot tail, by hey, sacrifices must be made for the greater good. The human menace must be stopped.

Game premises always make me laugh, as developers use absurd means to continue their theme, and Beaver’s Revenge is no exception. This is not meant as a criticism, but it does make you laugh to see an angry beaver hurling other forrest animals at the human’s strongholds. At least in that other angry animal game the one’s that were upset were the same that were sent into battle, but I digress.

Unless you have been living under a rock, or just got your iPhone two seconds ago, you know the basic gameplay of thei title, you throw your projectile at the structure using a combination of force and gravity to inflict enough damage to one or more targets that they shuffle off this mortal coil. While this technique has been done time and again, Beaver’s Revenge has a few tricks up its sleeve. First of all is the order in which you fire your friends can be changed each shot so there is a bit of strategy involved choosing the correct ammo. Secondly, the game utilies actual 3D models in the game and I found the structures to be much more stable that other games of this type.

As with most castle destruction games, you fight through a series of themes from forrest to outer space. Each level gives you a one to three star rating based on the points you get. If you find yourself stuck on a particularly hard level, you are able to purchase level skips from an IAP. The ability to be able to skip three levels it will cost you $.99, but unless you find some masochistic pleasure in spending more money, all the levels can be unlocked for $2.99. For the rest of us, levels are unlocked when you pass the previous one. Your scores and achievements are sent up to Open Feint and Game Center where you can gloat to your friends who actually paid to unlock all the levels early.

Will Beaver’s Revenge become the next angry animal game? Probably not (Disclaimer: I wrote this review wearing my Angry Birds underwear and tennis shoes while brushing my teeth with my Angry Birds toothbrush), since it really doesn’t offer much more than other games have. Some of the ammo is a bit different and I did enjoy playing the game, so I can’t be too critical of it. If you like the angry animal type of game and you are looking for more levels to challenge yourself, Beaver’s Revenge is a great source of entertainment. For the initial price of $1.99 you get sixty levels across three themes. The game also promises updates with more levels so put on Dreamwork’s Over the Hedge, and prepare to kill some lumberjacks.
