9 Places To Publicize Your iPhone App

mobile application development

There are plenty of different places to get a mobile application designed. The problem is that they’re quite expensive. You might be able to figure out how to create your own, but it will probably look very basic. Instead, a good mobile application development software can make it even easier, so that you can build great looking apps all by yourself.

The Mobile design Starter Kit includes all the themes and scenarios you need to build whatever app you want. There are customizable and standard files that allow you to sell or offer anything you want through the kit. Everything is there, so once you spend the money, you can create as many mobile apps as you want – and even sell the apps if this is your thing.

Update: It’s 11 now – thanks to Abbey in the comments and Doug on the e-mail 🙂

So you’ve developed an iPhone application. You’ve got it up on the App Store. But now you need people to buy it and you want to get the word out. There are plenty of traditional ways to do that, but you also have the option of submitting your app to some of the many iPhone application review and profiling sites out there. Here’s a look at some of the options:

The Strong Contenders

asa.png AppStoreApps.com is one of the biggest and oldest iPhone and iPod Touch app review sites. Owner Doug Lynch has the goal of reviewing every single iPhone app. Unfortunately we think the volume might be too great in the end, but he does a thorough job, so check out his submission guidelines and other advertising opportunities.

appcraver.png AppCraver say that “If you have a new product or service to showcase to the iPhone community, AppCraver is the place to do it.” So don’t delay to get your app over there. Read their submission information and guidelines.

148apps.png 148Apps is another site dedicated to profiling and reviewing iPhone applications. You can submit any pay-for application for priority review by either sending 148apps a copy using the ad-hoc distribution method (keys are given on their site) or by sending them an iTunes Gift Certificate for the correct amount. Read more submission information for 148Apps.

appsafari.png AppSafari is an interesting iPod applications “gallery” that focuses on showing small screenshots of apps rather than full profiles. They claim to have over 1.5 million monthly pageviews, and have a good submission page.

aipapps.pngApple iPhone Apps is a blog (with 1502 subscribers at the time of writing) that writes about and reviews iPhone and iPod Touch applications. It’s less of a giant list of apps than the other sites and while they have no explicit submission page, they still accept tips.

Their reviews appear to be personally written and are of a high quality, so this would be a great site to get your application onto, especially given the healthy number of subscribers.

ipal.png iPhone Application List is a site that lists iPhone and iPod Touch applications, unsurprisingly. It’s unique in that each app is profiled along with a full-size iPhone screenshot of the app. The submission page is quite straightforward.

nia.png NativeiPhoneApps features the “best iPod Touch applications and iPhone applications on the Internet” so you’ll want to be on there too! The submission process looks simple enough.

ipacouk.pngiPhoneApps.co.uk is a blog with news about iPhone applications. It doesn’t appear to be updated very often, but a submission link is provided. Submit and give them an excuse to update (with your app!)

apptism.png Apptism is another Mac application listing site. It has a very clean profile layout with a basic description, title, ratings (user and site), the app’s icon and other metadata. The submission page is here. Thanks to Abbey from the comments for the recommendation.

Other Potential Outlets

appshopper.png AppShopper is a new site by Arnold Kim (the guy famous for the excellent MacRumors.com) that lists iTunes App Store applications, with a particular focus on price changes and updates. It appears that applications will automatically make it into the site, but contact information is provided on-site, so if your application doesn’t make it in within a reasonable amount of time, it might be worth giving Arnold a prod.

apprater.png AppRater is “where only the best iPhone Web applications are found!” This is a site principally for “Web applications” rather than the native apps as sold on the iTunes App Store.

  18. Robert says:

We submitted to a bunch of these review sites. Some of the sites are good, and others are like a black box. In most cases it took forever for our reviews to be posted; some were never posted. The only site we experienced a quick turn around from was https://www.slapapp.com. They responded right away and had our review up within 48 hours. Granted we paid $10 for the “cut in line” option, but $10 to get a review done in 2 days. You can’t beat that! I recommend everyone check out https://www.slapapp.com. If anything it’ll get content about your app out there sooner.

  19. V. M. says:

I’ve reviewed and showcased many apps on Cool iPhone Apps With $1 Caps. You may want to include it in a blog list to get publicity for developers. No, we’re not the big guys, but we care about getting the word out ,and every publication helps.

  23. Giadita says:

We’ve recently developed a new platform called http://www.iwikiphone.com thinking of offering iPhone lovers and developers a real place for apps networking . You can register and build your profile page to let the world know what you do and who you are, you can point the apps you want into your Apps List and then upload reviews, videos, descriptions and more. But above all, you will be networking with people who are really interested in applications and those people will tell their friends what apps they like and so on and so forth. iWikiPhone.com is a free platform and you won’t find any advertisement on it, if there’s an app you’d like to promote by submitting your description, review or video just search in our DB and if you can’t find it please use the Contacts form and we’ll take care of that. I hope you guys like it!

  25. K Wags says:

I found AppStoreApps.Com on this page and recommend everyone avoid it. I ordered $450 in advertising and never received any responses. I received no advertising, no refund, no responses — I’m out $450. Currently pursuing a chargeback with the CC as PayPal (the only payment method he accepted) declined to mediate a “Virtual services” dispute.

So, a warning to any other developers: Stay away from AppStoreApps.Com. (I sincerely hope the originator of this blog will consider pulling the link to the site completely to help save other developers the problems I’ve experienced.)

    Hello everyone!
Let me introduce our website about applications for iPhone – http://www.oniphone.ru.
We welcome everyone and invite developers to send us your game for review and publication on our site.
Site in Russian. You can send a description in your language.
We will promote your applications on the Russia market.

Also, let me introduce a new game from the ASD Soft – Bikini Lines.
Funny version of the famous game – Lines. To clear the playing field and you will appear next to the beautiful bikini.

  31. K Wags says:

Just an update to my above comment.

On 10/22, we received word that our disputed charge from AppStoreApps.Com came back in our favor. We have received our $450.00 back from the CC company.

… But it took us over 2 months and a lot of headaches. It is my opinion that developers should just avoid using that site or risk wasting a lot of time like we did.

    Good luck to all!

  32. Kilimanjaro says:

  35. Steve says:

As a developer of iPhone Apps I didn’t realise for months that the reviews you see in the AppStore aren’t all the reviews! I did a search in Google for my App and it was coming back with reviews that I’d never seen before. Anyway it transpired that these where US Reviews and as I’m in the UK they’re not that easy to find (other than having to go and change the country via iTunes). Anyway I hope this helps some fellow developers .. https://www.appergy.com

It searches the App Store .. all of them .. for App Reviews .. it can take a minute or so as the searching is live and not cached .. but it’s worth the wait .. well it was for me anyway 😉

  51. What a great article. Thank you! We are currently trying to push our new Auto Recall app, that we thought would be very useful to iphone owners. Here’s a link if anyone is interested https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/auto-recalls/id366446682?mt=8 It’s a really neat app because it lists recalls for any vehicle both old and new. We just released the app and I had a few emails sent saying how cool it is because, as it turns out, many people don’t even know their cars have recalls! The odd thing is that we did not get any ratings or reviews. I actually tried to write one myself to see if it would go through, and it did not. To test it out I had a friend try from their phone, and again the review never showed up. Something is strange and meanwhile my app is sinking to the bottom with no reviews What is that about?
