Another Glaring Omission About To Get Filled…

Do you remember back to the early iPhone 3G rumors?

Among the breakthroughs being suggested dreamed of was a second, front-facing camera for video conferencing. Sadly, when the 3G was actually introduced not only didn’t it have the second camera, but it still didn’t even have the ability to record video.

Seems kind of silly since pretty much every other smartphone (and many feature phones) can do video. Moreover, the iPhone’s hardware can certainly support it and, in fact, there ARE jailbreak apps that record video already.

Well, once again developers are filling in some of the iPhone’s remaining omissions. This time it is going to be thanks to…

Qik.

Qik is some very neat software that “…enables you to share your moments live with your friends, family and the world – right from your mobile phone!”

That’s right, with Qik, the “right kind of phone” and a 3G or wifi connection you can stream live video to the web.

Turns our the iPhone 3G IS the “right kind of phone”. There is a Qik app for the iPhone and it works.  The only problem is… so far you’ve needed to jailbreak your iPhone in order to use it.

Now word comes that a “legit” version of Qik for NON-JAILBROKEN iPhones is about to be released in the App Store. No word on an actual release date but word on the web is that it is very close.

Sure you can send Twitter updates no matter where you are. Soon, though, that will be so passe since you’ll be able to broadcast live video right from your iPhone.

You can check out the Qik website HERE and we’ll be sure to let you know when the app makes its appearance.
