App Update – NYTimes

When I got my Kindle2 last week the first thing I did was get a trial subscription to the NYTimes.

Having previously used the TimesReader on my tabletpc I was excited to see how the Kindle2 did with it.

Fact is, while it is better than the first gen Kindle (thanks to 20% faster page load times) it is still a somewhat tedious process to navigate the Times on it. It WORKS but it isn’t a seemless process.

Well, as luck would have it the iPhone Times app just got updated to version 2 and it is a HUGE improvement!!!!

It is, quite honestly, the new app is an entirely different experience. Here’s why…

The new app loads MUCH faster (and I mean MUCH). Add to that vastly improved stability and you are talking a significant enough improvement to warrant a new look at the app and calling it version 2.

Add to that the fact that the process of searching the Times’ database, as well as navigating the app’s features are now much faster too and you have even more reason to like it.

But there is more…

The new version lets you email articles and save them for a longer period, as well. Finally, add to all this the fact that the new version lets you adjust the font size and you have a winner of an app.

Oh, and the app AND the content are free. So tell me, why would anyone pay for a Kindle, let alone DEAD TREE, subscription when the free Times app works super well?

I guess I’ll just have to use my Kindle for… books…
