Apple Is Forced To Choose Another Name For Its SmartWatch

Although Apple began registering iWatch as brand name in many countries around the world, in the most important markets may need to purchase or license  already registered brands.

In the U.S. and UK, iWatch name was registered as trademark a few years ago, and for Apple it could be a big, big problem. If you’re wondering about what kind of products the name was registered, well I will tell you that in the UK a company based in Italy registered the name for an application that transmits audio/video content and information about locations using data communication technologies.

In the U.S. the name belongs to a company that at one time tried to develop a SmartWatch and requested funding through Indiegogo, but unfortunately failed to convince users that their product deserves attention. Both companies hold patents on the brand for some years, both will surely act and sue Applle if an iWatch from those from Cupertino will be released without their consent, and the problem is big for Europe as UK Patent apply throughout the continent.

Although it seems unlikely choosing another name for the SmartWatch from Apple, the company can license or buy patents for considerable sums of money.
